Kdgn: Students played the Valentine game "Love Somebody" working on tone matching skills with the tones of Do, Re, Mi, Fa, and Sol. Students were assessed for pitch matching as they sang solo responses in the game. Students also worked on rhythm stick routines and the movement activity Copy Cat.
Students viewed the first part of the Wee Sing movie A Happy Party and sang interactively to the songs: BINGO, Old MacDonald, The More We Get Together.
First Grade: Students played the Valentine game "Love Somebody" working on tone matching skills with the tones of Do, Re, Mi, Fa, and Sol. Students read an accompanying Promethean chart and began to identify how melodies move by skips and by steps. Students played an interactive listening game called "Scales" and they responded to moving steps of the major scale by lying on their backs and moving legs and arms to ascending and descending scales played on bells and piano by the instructor.
Students worked in the gym on their ribbon stick routines in preparation for the upcoming Fine Arts Festival.
Second Grade: Students worked on the song "Old Abe Lincoln" learning the melody and the counter melody. Students also played the Valentine game "Love Somebody" and read the pitches on a Promethean chart. Students learned how to play the entire song on the melody bells by reading pitch names and identifying similar and different phrases in the melody.
Third Grade : Students finished their movement assessment, performing their choreographed routines to Heart of Rock and Roll in front of their classmates: identifying introduction, verse, chorus, and coda through different movements. Students were introduced to the song "Eddie Kootchie" and began learning repeat sign and fermatas as they appear in the music.
Fourth Grade: Students were introduced to the song material "Try a Little Kindness" by viewing a YouTube performance by the artist Glen Campbell. Students also reviewed the singing of " The Drinking Gourd" and minor patterns in the song. Students reviewed the lines of the treble clef by rotating through learning stations and interactive learning at the Promethean board and kinesthetic games like the Human Staff.
Fifth Grade: Students reviewed music road signs through interactive Promethean charts. All symbols will appear in the next performance assessment. Students also listened to the fourth movement of Beethoven's 9th symphony and created individual sketches while listening. Students worked on the melody of the Ode to Joy on melody bells for one class period and on the second period worked in pairs rotating through learning stations on keyboards, pianos, Orff xylophones, and bells to practice playing the Beethoven classic and prepare for assessment.
Sixth Grade: Students continued their work on the musical West Side Story. Students were introduced to the scenes and songs in Act One. Students took notes on a study guide and were exposed to the lyrics of songs via the Promethean board.
Chorus: Students continued to prepare for the upcoming Celebrate America sing a long to be held on Monday, Feb. 20. Rap of the Presidents was the main focus and students viewed a YouTube video titled " The 44 Presidents of the United States of America" to make connections to history.
